Deciding your limit: before you start

You are the only control that exists before money leaves your hands, so it helps to decide the amount you are willing to spend before you click anything. Treat that amount as already spent the moment you set it aside, rather than as money you are trying to win back. This removes the pressure of watching a balance and makes it easier to stop at the number you chose rather than the number a losing run tempts you toward.

If a session moves into a loss, resist the urge to chase it with a bigger stake. Chasing losses is one of the most common ways a fixed budget turns into an open-ended one, because each attempt to recover a loss carries the same risk of extending it. A short break away from the screen, even a few minutes, gives you room to notice whether you are still making decisions calmly.

Warning signs: practical checks

  • Gambling with money set aside for bills, rent or other borrowed funds is a sign to stop immediately, since it means the activity is no longer contained to spare money.
  • Losing track of time or repeatedly telling yourself "one more go" is worth noticing early, before it becomes a pattern across multiple sessions.
  • Talking to someone you trust as soon as gambling stops feeling like entertainment tends to be more effective than waiting until a problem has grown, because early conversations are easier to have honestly.
  • Taking regular breaks between sessions, rather than only after a loss, helps keep the activity occasional rather than habitual.

Help organisations: on every page

Every page of this site, including this one, carries links to three independent gambling-help organisations: begambleaware.org, gamblingtherapy.org and gamcare.org.uk. These are the only outbound links on the site that are not commercial. Unlike the operator links, they carry no sponsored marking, are set to nofollow, and open in a separate tab on the organisations' own websites. This site receives nothing when a reader follows them.

What this site cannot do: for you

Controls such as deposit caps, loss caps, reality checks, cooling-off periods or self-exclusion belong to an account held with an operator. This site has no account, no form and no server-side application, so nothing published here can switch such a control on, check its status or enforce it. Nobody's age is verified on this site and no gambling takes place on it; any age check happens at the destination. The eighteen-and-over restriction is repeated throughout this build, including on the front page and at the end of every operator listing, but repeating it here is not the same as checking it. Each of the ten operator listings ends with the same line: check availability and the current terms at the destination before claiming anything, because eligibility rules and terms apply there and can change without notice. Everything a reader can actually do with money happens after leaving this site, once an operator link redirects to a third party and that destination's own rules, checks and account controls take over.
